Lhessadrak began his life as Rybold Lhessander, as an acolyte in the service of the Church of Everlasting Light, a sect dedicated to serving the good souls among sentient life and the erradication of evil, especially giants, dragons and the undead.
He met the love of his life, Vara Terne, a paladin serving in the sisterhood of the Everlasting Light. Breaking protocol of priestly abstinence, Lhessander pursued Vara until she too fell in love with him. In a secret marraige they became man and wife. During their short five year marraige, Vara bore him two daughters, Vhassa and Corliaun.
Vara was called to duty in the protection of the northern borderlands, during the serpent cycle when the wyrms of the north rained fire unto the peoples of the northern provinces. She fought bravely slaying three dragons before she fell.
This was the first blow to the saintly Lhessander. The second came when a vampire took his two daughters to become undead kine.. Lhessander accompanied a trio of paladins to attempt a rescue. The vampire proved cunning and slew the paladins eventually capturing Lhessander himself.
Under extreme duress, the vampire seduced Lhessander to lose faith by allowing him to witness his children as members of the undead. Pining to join them, he turned away from the Everlasting Light, becoming evil incarnate.
His rise to power serving those he fought against for so long proved too much for the dark cult he now served. He eventually was elected to its highest post as pontiff. During his tenure, he changed his name to Lhessadrak and began to study the unholy rites to lichdom.
Succeeding in his dark plan, Lhessadrak remains the pontiff of the cult of the Shadowed Ones, with his daughters as his closest confidants.
Lhessadrak built the House of the Dead, his fortress in the marshlands, eventually excavating a crypt beneath.
In life that which was most important to Lhessadrak was always his family. In the centuries he has existed in undead former his tragedies in life still haunt him. Through a ritual he has been trying to make contact with descendants of his bloodline, attempting to make contact and bring closure to his past deeds and misdeeds.
